The “Sicilian Wine Awards” wine competition is back for the third consecutive year, the award dedicated to the best wines produced on the island and organized by the editorial staff of Cronache di Gusto.
During the competition the wines will be evaluated according to the following categories:
- Doc Etna Bianco
- Doc Etna Rosso
- Doc Sicilia Nero D’Avola
- Doc Sicilia Grillo e Catarratto
- Terre Siciliane Igt Bianco
- Terre Siciliane Igt Rosso
- Docg Cerasuolo di Vittoria
- Other Doc (only wines produced with native vines)
- Rosè
- Sparkling
For the Doc Sicilia categories the wines of other denominations are allowed as long as the word Sicilia is present (e.g. Doc Contea di Sclafani – Sicilia). To evaluate the wines, a great jury of experts with Daniele Cernilli, also known as Doctor Wine, as president. The committee will be composed by Bernard Burtschy (Le Figaro), Stephen Brook (Decanter, World of Fine Wine), Christian Eder (Vinum), Federico Latteri (Cronache di Gusto), Ted Lelekas (Master of Wine, I love Greek Wine), Alessandra Piubello (I vini di Veronelli, Spirito Divino Italia and Asia), Eleonora Scholes (spaziovino.com).
The participation to the contest is free of charge. Each winery can participate by sending 3 bottles for each wine for 5 labels maximum. The shipment must be delivered no later than October 12, 2018 at Villa Neri Resort & Spa, Contrada Arrigo – 95015, Linguaglossa (CT). The committee will taste the wines blindly and will evaluate them in percent. The Sicilian Wine Awards will be assigned to the best three wines for each category. Auroflex and Diam sponsor the event. The award-winning wines will be announced by October 27, 2018. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday October 28, 2018 at 5 pm at Hotel Villa Diodoro, during the Taormina Gourmet event, where institutional representatives and various insiders will be present.
